DECISION FOR THE FUTURE FAQs

WHAT IS THE DECISION FOR THE FUTURE OF THE PORCH?

Ministry Partner Representatives, after prayerful discussion, research, and hearing the findings of the exploratory groups, made a unanimous recommendation to the Ministry Board May 15, 2022 to become a non-denominational church.

Based upon the unanimous consensus from the exploratory groups, and the unanimous consensus from the ministry partner representatives, The Porch Community Church Ministry Board voted unanimously on May 15, 2022 to become a non-denominational church upon the disaffiliation from The United Methodist Church July 1, 2022.

WHO WERE THESE GROUPS
AND WHAT WAS THEIR TASK?

Four key groups met to discuss direction for TPCC:

The Ministry Board meets and communicates regularly on these and ongoing church needs.
TPCC Leadership
Two 10-person Exploratory Groups met numerous times over six to eight weeks to research and discuss the pros and cons of denominational affiliation and an independent/non-denominational option.
Ministry Partner Representatives (chosen by the Ministry Board, lay leaders, and staff) attended informational meetings in April and May and made a prayerful unanimous recommendation for the direction of TPCC to the Ministry Board May 15, 2022.

DID THE CONGREGATION HAVE A VOICE IN THE CONVERSATION?

Yes! Multiple Q & A sessions, denominational presentations, exploratory group presentations, community group and serve team conversations, and opportunities to reach out to Board and Staff leadership was made available from March to May 2022.

WILL TPCC CHANGE?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! We will stay focused on our mission of Following Jesus For Our Community. We will not change how we present the Gospel in our teaching, how we do worship, how we do community groups, or how we do missions and outreach in our community.

WILL LEADERSHIP @ TPCC CHANGE?

Our Lead Pastor, the Staff, and The Ministry Board will remain in place.
Our current governance structure made up of Ministry Partners, the Ministry Board, the Lead Pastor, and the annual Nominating Team, provides accountability and appropriate checks and balances between all parties.

The Board is currently writing and reviewing our Bylaws to guide how we will operate and a statement of Faith & Practice to guide our Wesleyan theological practices. These will be posted as soon as approved.
